Crown Ducal by Charlotte Rhead

Crown Ducal Backstamp Styles

All of Charlotte Rhead’s Crown Ducal pieces have a backstamp of some description. The types discovered so far are displayed on this page and have been given an AGR code number which is based on those used in ‘Collecting Rhead Pottery’, page 98, by Bernard Bumpus.

However, the sequence of these AGR codes does not appear to be strictly chronological and from my observations the date ranges are sometimes unrealistic.  So I have listed them here in the time order in which they appear based on the design date of the pieces they have been printed on. But the date ranges indicate date of manufacture not design.

The situation is complicated by the fact that some designs had a long production period and therefore examples of particular patterns will be found with different backstamps. Also, some designs were reintroduced after Charlotte had left A.G. Richardson and even manufactured after her death.
